Description:

China, Song to early Ming dynasty
D. 21 cm
With deep rounded sides supported on a straight foot, tapering to a slightly incurved rim, coverall overall in a thick lavender-blue glaze thinning to a pale brown tone at the mouth rim and stopping short of the neatly trimmed foot.
Collection of the architect Franz Hart (1910 - 1996), acquired in May 1954 from Weinmüller in Munich for DM 500.-, inventory no. 294
A smaller bowl of similar shape, dated 12th c., is preserved in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum London, Bequeathed by J.G. Maxwell Brownjohn, C.43-1965, published Rose Kerr ‚Song Dynasty Ceramics‘. London, 2004. p. 33, no. 23. See also the bowl preserved in the British Museum, acquired 1909, dated Yuan dynasty, reg.no. 1909.0401.18.
