China, Xuande six-character mark, Ming/ early Qing dynasty

Decorated in relief around the body with the Eight Auspicious Symbols, with rope handles at the rim, standing on three feet, with an apocryphal six-character mark to base Da Ming Xuan De Nian Zhi. Weight 369 gr.
Eggert collection, Berlin, assembled in the 1960s and 70s - This rare miniature censer reflects the influence of Buddhism at the early Ming court, particularly during the Yongle and Xuande reign. See ‚China’s Renaissance in Bronze: The Robert H. Clague Collection of Later Chinese Bronzes 1100-1900‘, Phoenix, 1993, cat. no. 20 for a very similar censer. A similar censer from the George and Mary Bloch collection was sold at Sotheby’s Hongkong, 23.10,2005, lot 133.
