A SILK PANEL WITH FLORAL MEDALLION PATTERN

150 x 76 cm, R.
Silk satin (yellow), lampas, pattern weft: silk (red, blue, white, green, dark brown), metal threads. The selvedges are preserved on both sides. A complex pattern of flower medallions is woven into the yellow silk fabric. The interlaced grid consists of bands connecting squares and diamonds. Large medallions are bordered with Ruyi shapes and geometric patterns and tiny Fenghuang birds are added in the pattern. Silks with this type of pattern (bao xiang hua) are often used in a Buddhist context.
