Description:
China, probably Dali Kingdom, ca. 10th/ 11th c.H. 30,8 cm
Standing in samabhanga with his right arm lowered along his body with the hand cusped while the left is stretched forward supporting the alms-bowl filled with food, clad in a monastic garment including an underskirt falling down his legs partly covering his feet and wavering out at the backside around his feet and a mantle draped over his left shoulder with a section folded back to the front encircling the arm and its finial placed on his left hand supporting the alms-bowl, the drapery of the mantle falling in neat pleats down his body, his face displaying a serene expression with downcast eyes below arched eyebrows that run into the nose-bridge, raised urna at his forehead, smiling lips, elongated earlobes and the curled hair continuing into a low ushnisha set to the front with a half-moon shaped ornament, traces of pigments.
