Yellow satin silk embroidered with colored silk in satin stitch and gold threads in appliqué technique. Framed with passepartout behind glass. In each of the four parts a five-clawed golden dragon with flaming pearl is floating between clouds. In addition, in the rectangular parts, stylized rocks rise from waves below. The two round medallions formerly formed the lid and bottom of a small cushion, the side of which was composed of several of the curved rectangular pieces. This shape is usually referred to as the "elbow pillow" and was used on the raised platform kang.
Old German private collection, assembled before 1920 in China (by repute)
The use of imperial yellow silk and five-clawed dragons suggests that this pillow was used in the imperial court, possibly by the emperor himself.
