Auspicious Deer. Ink and light colors on silk, mounted as hanging scroll. Later inscribed: "Happiness, prosperity and hundred years. In the fourth month of the gengzi year of the Qianlong era (1780), Bian Jingzhao." One seal of the artist.

Bian Wenjin, style name Jingzhao, was a court painter of the Yongle era of the Ming dynasty (1403-1424). He was a famous master of flower and bird painting in the academic style. The painting functioned as a typical birthday gift for a high aged gentleman - Traces of age. restorations
