Xie Shichen, style name Sizhong, was a native of Suzhou and also spent his lifé there. He seems to have been a professional painter who combined an expressive own style of literatl painting with elements of the academic tradition like the mountaln peaks in light Ink wash in the upper left in this painting. It shows the characteristlc style of Xie Shichen very well. The wavy lines and flying dots of the rocks and trees are mainly derived from the famous literati painter Shen Zhou (1427-1509) who was his main model - Wear, restorations
