Silk damask (reddish brown) with supplementary brocaded weft threads in silk (blue, green, red, green each in graduated tones, white), gold thread. Appliquéd borders: blue silk with woven dragon medallions and treasures in gold; striped border embroidered with silk. Both parts are from a silk that was woven for a courtly garment. The damask ground is patterned with dragon medallions and stylized clouds. A large, quadruple-curved medallion with the characteristic depiction of dragons in clouds above waves with rising rocks is woven into the colored silk around the neckline. The narrow appliquéd borders from the neckline of a robe are still partly preserved. Their shape suggests that this garment was once used in Mongolian culture.
