Description:
China, seal mark Zhang Minqi zhi, 17th /18th c.31,2 x 16,3 x 24 cm
The handwarmer is cast with a rounded rectangular body and attached with a swing handle. The base is inscribed with a seal mark Zhang Mingqi zhi. The cover is finely pierced with a geometric and floral pattern.
Old German private collection, assembled by a family member in Shanghai between 1937 and 1949
The sophisticated shape and meticulously cut-out designs of the present lot are typical features Zhang Mingqi, a craftsman active during the late Ming dynasty and highly regarded for the tactile and elliptical shapes of his handwarmers.
