The first ink piece with inscription: Wan shou wu jiang and signature Hui she cao sugong jin zhi (Respectfully made by Cao Sugong of She County, Anhui Province) in a yellow silk wrapper. The second ink piece marked Hu Ziqing zhi.
Max Müller (1867-1960), German consul in Hankow, collected in China between 1905 and 1912. By descent to his daughter Irmgard Müller-Doertenbach (1909-2011), acquired from her by the present owner 1992
Cao Sugong (1615-1689) was one of the four most famous craftsmen for ink sticks. Hu Tianzhu (1832 - ?) was a descendant of Hu Tianzhu, the business was founded at the beginning of the Tongzhi period and closed in 1938.
