Description:
Indonesia, Sumatra, Lampung, 19th c.275 x 67 cm
Cotton (natural beige) in plain weave with supplementary brocaded silk threads (black-blue, dark blue, dark red, golden yellow). The silk pattern wefts cover the ground almost completely. The patterns are arranged in three rows in the cloth: A row of ancestor figures at the top and bottom, with seven large ships in between, each with a four-footed animal and smaller figures. Borders with geometric patterns at the edges and sides.
