Jan Ahlers Collection
Sattler, 1993, No. 5-9; Since in ancient times and later in antiquity the movement of the planets was associated with the gods and their attributes, the names of the Roman gods were transferred to the stars. Art thematises this combination in the so-called planetary gods, of which seven were known in the 18th century. There are two almost identical clay statuettes of the figure of Saturn, which Wenzel Neu probably created as a bozetti for the porcelain model. Lit.: Peters, Thuringian Porcelain of the XVIII. Jahrhunderts, fig. 49.
