In literature, this model is referred to as a tea and tobacco caddy or as a potpourri vessel. The dedication probably refers to Henry XV of Reuss's older line. The same monogram ‘VR’ adorns another version of this model, illustrated in the catalogue of Rudolph Lepke's Kunst-Auktions-Haus, Berlin 2002, no. 97 (auction on 4/5 December 1928). Further comparable pieces in the Staatliches Museum zu Schwerin, Vonderau Museum Fulda, Schloßmuseum Gotha (similar).
