Collection Ferdinand (III.) Mülhens – Highlights

Auction: November 08th/09th 2023
Viewing: November 03rd – November 06th 2023, 11 am – 5 pm

The collection of 4711 Heir Ferdinand Mülhens is one of the highlights of the upcoming fall season at Nagel Auctions in Stuttgart, Germany

The Cologne entrepreneur, who was the great-grandson of the founder of the legendary fragrance brand, passionately assembled a collection of old master paintings that is probably one of the most beautiful to be offered at a German auction in a long time. As secret as the recipe of “Aqua Mirabilis – 4711”, so hidden was the exquisite collection, which was known only to a few chosen people. Now it is presented to the public for the first time and the collector is honored with an extensive special catalog. The focus in the catalog is on Dutch landscape painters of the 17th century. Among them are works by Jan van Goyen, Simon de Vlieger, Albert Cuyp and David Teniers. Selected works will also be on view in Munich, Berlin and Cologne in the fall.

In the truest meaning of the term, the offer of the jewelry auction is high-carat, in addition to a classicist tiara with over 250 diamonds from the time around 1825, it is above all vintage classics from the famous jewelry houses Cartier, Tiffany, Van Cleef & Arples and Georg Hornemann. For example, a Panther necklace set with 492 brilliant-cut diamonds and a cocktail ring decorated with 40 brilliant-cut diamonds, both from Cartier. An extravagant collier-de-chien with pearls and diamonds is a special creation from the workshop of the legendary Düsseldorf goldsmith Georg Hornemann.

The weapons collection of the Barons von Elmendorff from Veynau Castle near Cologne is exceptional. The collection includes well over 100 medieval pole weapons, swords and pieces of armor.

From a collection in Baden-Baden comes an extremely rare so-called pearl table from the Brunswick manufactory of Johann Michael von Selow around 1760
